    We purchased this backpack in August for the school year and very quickly the main zipper broke, then in November a hole opened in the bottom and it is so bad that we have to replace the bag with another one so my daughter's books don't fall out during school. I have been very disappointed with the durability of this backpack.

    This backpack is designed well with small, medium and large pouches and good size water bottle sleeves. The straps are comfortable too. However…

    In a perfect world, a middle schooler wouldn’t be toting enough books to require regular chiropractor visits. But that’s not our world - she is required to carry so many books/notebooks that she fills this backpack to its fullest. The first one lasted Aug to Nov of the school year. The replacement lasted 1.5 weeks. In each case, the backpack tore at the top,,kind of shredding the material and making it useless (esp when the first backpack rip expanded so far that the backpack was essentially spilling the contents). Great backpack if your child has a lighter book load, but we are now transitioning to a military tactical backpack for our use case as this normal one just isn’t working for us.

    3 stars because it is a great design and would work for most people.

    Update to the review below: I contacted High Sierra at their website, and they immediately offered to send me a replacement at no cost. I appreciate their willingness to make things right, and although I can't recommend this particular backpack, I DO recommend High Sierra!

    Other reviews have raved about the quality of these backpacks, so I can only imagine that they have recently started making them much more cheaply. My daughter carried this backpack for less than six weeks - normal middle school use, nothing crazy - and a giant hole has already appeared by the zipper. It is unusable, and unreturnable since we are two weeks past the 30-day return window. I DO NOT recommend these backpacks, and I suggest being very skeptical of any reviews that describe their durability. That seems to be a thing of the past.

We decided to get a different color for her 3rd year in HS and on the day she put it on her back, we noticed a tear- the loop on the shoulder strap ripped off completely. I was surprised.     My daughter is in 6th grade now and has so many books, binders, notebooks, Chromebook, etc that she has to carry around with her all day. Her shoulders were so red and raw from her old backpack not fitting properly so I researched the best backpack and found this one. I'm so glad I did because this one is extremely comfortable and fits her perfectly. It also fits me or anyone even larger because of all the adjustment straps. Its a waterproof type material so it's extremely easy to clean, which is always a good thing with kids. It holds all the same items but doesn't even feel heavy. Separate zippered section for Chromebook, separate zippered section books, notebooks etc, and separate zipped section for pens, pencils and pencil cases. Also has two small zipper pockets for smaller items like sanitary items, one at the front and one at the very top. Also the water bottle holders in the sides are very large to hold any sized bottle. I highly recommend this backpack.

    I bought this backpack for a small child in elementary school. As soon as we received the backpack, they moved all of their items to the new backpack only to find that there was an error with the stitching. The arm strap was inaccessible because it was sewn inside of the suspension strap. There was no way for us to fix it without cutting the suspension strap on the front.

    I contacted the manufacturer and sent them pictures to see if there was a way for us to fix it without cutting the strap, but they recommended that we return the backpack.

    Not wanting to deal with the hassle of returning, we cut the end of the suspension strap off, freed the arm strap, and rethreaded the suspension strap.

    My child took this backpack to school for all of 4 days before it started ripping next to the zipper. This is the first time this has ever happened in my house. I expected a name brand backpack to make it through a school year, but it didn't make it through a week before it started to rip.

    I plan to contact the company about the warranty, so I don't have to worry about sending it back. If that's an issue, I'll return through Amazon because it's eligible for return for 3 more months, so I have time. Will update and let you know how that process goes!
