I wanted something to replace my conventional oven in the summertime and this certainly does the job. I've seen complaints that there is no "recipe book", but this oven comes with a handy cooking guide on cooking everything from turkey, chicken, to frozen ham, chicken fingers ect. So, if you've read other reviews there are some legitimate issues with the "dome holder" which is a metal bracket that's supposed to hold open the cooker when removing you food. It doesn't work well at all, I just use two hot pads and take the dome and power head completely off when done (be careful, they are hot).

Now what this thing does do is make really good food, I've cooked whole chickens in this cooker and they come out browned on the outside and juicy on the inside just like you want. The bottom tray catches drippings and makes it easy to make chicken gravy as well.

Overall this cooker might not be for everyone, but it does exactly what i needed it to.

Easy to use. My first test was cooking a 5 lb chicken, which (after calculating the right estimated cooking time) came out perfect.

I am sure that it can be used for cooking almost anything that will fit, BUT essentially this is merely a circular convection oven. If you have other alternatives in your household, I am not sure what the overall benefit of buying this extra device. My normal oven or my microwave/convection oven would seem to offer the same functionality, while being "always available".

This device is in fact quite large. Between the bottom and the dome large enough to need multiple shelves, a full kitchen cabinet just to store it. That is, unless you find ways to use it every day and leave it on a kitchen counter.

MAYBE in a dorm-room with no other ways of cooking it would fit in better.
The benefit of not needing preheating does not seem to be a good enough reason. That extra couple of minutes to preheat a more standard convection oven does not seem a real problem.

Overall, it is quality made, works well enough.
But it also seems a quite large investment to get a fairly simple device with not much extra to offer, other than potentially portability.

I guess it all depends on your situation.

This Nuwave oven works much like a typical air fryer, but it has more features and options. I do like how it cooks chicken/fish and keeps them more moist than my air fryer. I actually like most everything about this versatile oven, except for a couple of small things. It's much bigger than the air fryer, and takes up more valuable counter space. I only have room for one appliance like this, so one of the ovens will need to go in a cabinet, where it's less likely to get used as much. Also, cleaning this oven takes more effort. The air fryer can use disposable liner inserts that make cleanup quick and easy. Even though parts of this oven can be cleaned in the dishwasher, it's still more of a hassle. If you don't already have an air fryer, then this is a great choice.

This has been my first experience with a NuWave product, so I can't compare the ProPlus2 to it's predecessors, but I'm pleased with the oven so far. My initial impression was that the unit is larger than expected and requires some significant counter space. I like the Deep Blue base color, but I would much prefer a clear cover instead of amber, which prevents the best view of the food as it's cooking and is just not attractive. The appliance requires minimal assembly, just placing the pieces together in order, and disassembles easily for cleaning (dishwasher safe except for the heating unit). Basic instructions are included; an app must be downloaded for more information and recipes.

My first cook was simply reheating some leftover restaurant fries; they were crisp and actually tasted better than fresh! I have also made oven "fried" chicken, which I marinated in buttermilk and rolled in breadcrumbs prior to baking in the NuWave; it came out browned and deliciously moist (after being turned halfway through cooking). Vegetables have been hit or miss; most are better when actually oven roasted on higher heat than this allows.

Since I only have to prepare meals for my husband and myself, the capacity of this oven is generally adequate for our use everyday. My primary disappointment is with the lack of a paper recipe book; digital is fine on occasion but inconvenient for a large amount of content. I prefer having the ability to make written comments on a recipe and flipping quickly through a booklet. I honestly haven't explored many of the presets so can't comment on their efficiency. The lid holder would be more effective if it could attach more securely; I don't bother to use it. Overall, this is a very good countertop appliance that I will undoubtedly use more than the air fryer I already have. It's nice to be able to cook from frozen, on two levels at once and in fairly generous quantities, without requiring time to preheat. Will it replace my main oven or gas grill? No, but I anticipate using the NuWave frequently in the summer, when not overheating my kitchen will be a necessity. This would definitely make a great gift, sure to be appreciated by almost anyone who has some extra space and could use a simpler method of cooking. Nice Product!

This Nu Wave Pro Plus 2 Infrared Oven comes with complete instructions, and lots of pre-set recipes already programmed into it. I got the Deep Blue color. It has an amber colored dome, and those two colors go really well with some stained glass cabinet doors I have in my kitchen, so I love the color combination.

I tried a really simple meal in the oven. I got some frozen tilapia filets, some zucchini and some orange bell peppers. I sliced the veggies thinly, stacked them on the grill rack in the 3" position, and put two completely frozen tilapia filets on top. I basted them with olive oil, sprinkled with seasoning salt, and set the oven for twelve minutes (the oven is automatically set at 350 degrees, but can be adjusted). They came out perfectly.

I love that the whole thing disassembles and goes in the dishwasher, except the power head. I also love how easy it is to operate, and that I can cook foods from frozen, without having to plan ahead and thaw them. I am already thinking of so many combinations I can cook in this! I love how versatile it is. I think I want to try baking in it next. I highly recommend this if you want a way to cook easy, healthy meals without heating up a whole oven, and are looking for easy cleanup.

I was excited about the new 100 presets, but they are useless because there is no recipe book for the preset items.
AI referred me to the NuWave app. I still had that and checked it, but again, no mention of the Pro Plus 2 or the Presets.

If you have an oven, this is not a kitchen essential. However, depending on your preferences, it may outperform other devices and warrant a spot in your abode. Let me start by summarizing:

PROs - Keeps juices intact during cooking and doesn't dry food out
Heats quickly - doesn't require preheating
Easy to clean and does not accumulate grease at the top
Easy to use, with a simple timer and many presets
Effectively combines a convection oven with an air fryer

CONs - Very large (over 15"), needing lots of counter space and storage space
Priced comparatively to high-end convection ovens
Most components are made from plastic
Only offers one cooking technique

If you're planning to purchase this, get the recipe book. I could not find it on any website, so I went through customer service, and they got me a copy. It's 142 pages, so it's only available in .pdf format.

Whole chicken—Amazing. This is the signature dish for this oven. It easily fits a 4-pound chicken. The skin was cooked to a sumptuous crispiness while the inside remained moist and juicy.

Chips—you can actually make them! Use a mandolin slicer and place them on the rack for 20 minutes. They look brown, but they are not burned.

Salmon - I thought it tasted excellent, a flavor similar to poached salmon. My spouse, who prefers grilled salmon, was not impressed.

Fries—They came out looking and tasting great. I also occasionally eat air-fried fries, and I couldn't say these tasted better or worse.

Bread -- It toasted our ciabatta rolls perfectly in six minutes. Of course, a toaster oven or grill pan could have done the same, but I can cook the bread with the meat simultaneously if I'm just cooking one burger or one salmon steak.

Vegetables - They tasted fine, but I didn't detect any noticeable change in flavor from this cooking technique. I usually stir-fry vegetables with spices and herbs, and that's still my preferred technique.

Burger and Sausage—Compared to grilling, this oven keeps the juices inside when cooking. To release some fats, poke holes in the sausage and sear the beef during cooking. I prefer the grilling flavor, but this still captured the essence of a burger and a wurst.

Grilled onions -- Mine did not come out like the photograph, but I seasoned them much more simply. I cooked the chips, then the onions, and then the burgers in one device in sequence, which made for easier cleaning but took more kitchen time overall.

I don't find any of Ethan's criticisms, offered as Amazon's top critical review, relevant. We had no trouble keeping the power cord away from the hot surfaces. Second, don't try to remove the power dome until the device has cooled. Just pick up the plastic dome and set them together on the counter. Third, we store the power dome inside the yellow plastic dome without using the dome holder.

Conclusion—Everything it can make, it makes well. Still, other than the whole chicken and chips, we have other cooking techniques or devices that perform similarly. It's impossible for me to assess whether this technique produces healthier food, but it creates good-tasting food. I can't consider this a must-have -- it can't replace our combination pressure cooker, steamer, fryer, and saute device. Still, it does enough that I will offer a five-star review and leave it to the reader to decide whether it meets their needs.

I have seen these kinds of Nuwave ovens in the past and always thought they were strange looking. I had the opportunity to get one of the newer models so I thought I would give it a try and provide my experience.

These ovens are very strange looking. They look like an upside down bowl but in use, it functions very well. The core of this unit is convection baking. Basically the food is risen up off the base of the platform on a wire rack and there is a powerful heating element along with fans that blow the hot air all around the food creating a fully immersed cooking environment. The entire brains of the unit is on the top which conveniently can be removed for easy cleaning of all of the other parts. The top unit twists onto the yellow colored lid and has all of the temperature, time, and preset controls.

My first cook with this unit was bacon wrapped chicken breasts. This is a tricky thing to cook in a tradition oven on a flat pan because the bacon on the bottom does not cook as well as the bacon on the top and sides. I chose this meal to be my first because I wanted to see how the convection worked and whether it would fix the uneven bacon problem.

The results were mixed. I was hoping for an even cook of bacon, but the bottom was still a bit undercooked compared to the top. I guess the is to be expected considering there is only a heating element on the top and not the bottom. To get a true even cook, there would need to be heat coming from both top and bottom. The preheating time was reasonable and the cook time was about the same as my convection oven but without the extreme heat in the kitchen. This is very handy in my Arizona summers.

I still have a lot to try with this Nuwave oven but so far I am happy with its performance. For the price of this unit, which is currently $161 at the time of writing this review, it is a decent competitor to other counter top convection ovens however the visuals might deter some people. It is not the most appealing thing to look at on your counter, and given its size, which is larger than an 8qt pressure cooker. As a result, it will be hard to store in a cabinet. Its size is pretty massive but that also provides a lot of cooking space up to a 10lb turkey which is pretty impressive and something most counter top ovens could not fit. With the 100 presets and the 50 available custom programs, there is enough variety for everyone.

I was offered two Nuwave products through the Vine program to review, their new Brio air fryer and this infrared oven. I started not to ask for the oven, but I’m so glad I did! Unlike the air fryer (sorry, people, but I’m underwhelmed with the whole air-frying craze), this oven has earned its spot on my countertop, where it will live. I can use many of my oven-safe cookware pieces with it, including the silicone air fryer liners, pyrex dishes, and even my little cast iron wok.

This oven is a lot more attractive to look at than a hulking big opaque air fryer and actually is far more versatile. Because its dome is a clear yellow, it actually looks smaller to me than the air fryer does, I guess because I’ve got it on an L in my kitchen and I can see through it…not like a big hulking air fryer. I can run this off my Bluetti AC180 (solar or grid), and I can see from watching the wattage output that this oven does, indeed, adjust itself in seconds to keep the temperature even; for most of what I’ve cooked so far, it has rocked between about 1346 watts and under 30 watts. For this reason, alone, I am delighted to have it.

The first thing I cooked was a hodgepodge of stuff out of the freezer just to see what it would do. It takes longer than from defrosted, of course, but you do not have to pre-defrost or preheat the oven. I started looking into how to cook things like frozen pizzas in the oven. Interestingly, they said to start cooking it upside down first, then flip it over. I haven’t tried this yet, but I’m thinking one would want to put a piece of parchment paper underneath the upside-down pizza to keep the toppings from falling off!

Knowing that my partner is not going to fool with elaborate settings beyond what one would do with a microwave, I tried frozen crinkle fries on the default setting (which can be changed) of 350F and 15 minutes. On the fry package, it said to preheat to 425, but the Nuwave only goes up to 350, so I wasn’t sure if it was going to be able to cook the fries properly. Well, let me tell you, not only did it “fry” them better than an air fryer, I could get a lot more fries in a single layer in this oven than in an air fryer. If anything, the fries got a little too done, although they were evenly browned without having to flip them. After I’ve experimented a little more, I may change the default settings to be 12 minutes instead.

I made quesadillas using 8-inch flour tortillas, first buttering one side and browning it some in a cast iron skillet before adding on cheese and other ingredients and folding them in half. Two large quesadillas made this way fit easily on the oven rack, and I think I could have skipped the skillet step entirely and gotten better results. (My induction burner makes a browned 4-inch circular area in the center of the tortilla but does not brown the outer parts at all. I think this oven would brown things uniformly.)

Then I started playing around with the presets (accessed through the Menu button) and was overjoyed to realize that the setting used to make beef jerky can also be used as a keep-warm function. The great thing about these presets is you don’t have to cycle through a ton of numbers to get to what you want. No, you press Menu and then “type” the number of the preset you want, and hit start. This is the case with anything you enter manually with the oven: press Temp and type in the temp, then press Time and type in the time. No extra button pushes for anything. For five minutes, you press 5 (not 05) and it’s smart enough to know you want 5 minutes and not 5 hours. It’s very intuitive. What a refreshing change from some other appliances I’ve used!

Now, the heat thing. The air fryer blows a lot of heat out of its back vent into the kitchen. Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad if it was positioned under a cabinet, with the back facing the wall, but from the L in my kitchen it just blasts hot air into the open kitchen area. This infrared oven, on the other hand, keeps all the air inside. You do get a little radiant heating from the exterior of the dome, but it’s far less than blowing hot air out into the room.

So many pieces of cookware I already have fit this oven, too. I can sit five 8 oz. ramekins on the 1/3 rack. I can get eight wide mouth mason jar rings on one level, so if I can find some solid mason jar lids suitable for cooking in, I’ll be able to cook that many eggs for egg sandwiches (see YouTube for the jar ring how-to). I want to try doing the eggs in the bottom of the oven while toasting muffins on the top, then assemble the sandwiches for freezing with a slice of cheese and sausage or ham. There is a recipe for making an eat-it-now egg sandwich in their downloadable recipe book; all recipes in the book have Menu presets.

Anyway, I’m probably gushing about this too much so I will quit. But I love this oven so much! The only thing I want now is for someone to offer a multi-tiered rack sized perfectly for this oven so I can dehydrate a bunch of stuff at once.

Overall, I'm really impressed with this infra-red cooker. This is my first experience with this type of device, and I must say that it really works quite well. It's convenient, it's easy to use, and it's easy to clean after use. I've tried cooking a variety of things in it now, and each one had turned out well. I notice that meats come out better than other methods (such as an air fryer), and they seem to retain their juices better. Also, it's really one of those "set it and forget it" devices... load it up, turn it on, and let it do it's magic.

It's larger than I expected, so you can truly prepare a family meal in it, which is great. I wasn't sure if it'd be something that I'd use often, but I find myself using it all the time. It's just too easy and convenient :)

I'd buy it again - Recommended.
