Autel Home Level 2 EV Charger up to 50Amp, 240V, Indoor/Outdoor Car Charging Station

Seems like a good value. Unfortunately, it was not shown on the “approved list” when checking for a state rebate……my fault for not checking this out before ordering. Easily returned with no complaints.

This charger is great. I originally had it for my Mach-E and worked like a charm. I recently traded my Mustang for a Model 3 and it works great with the Tesla adapter. I hope in the future they can make a charge cable made for Tesla. I only seen replacement cables for non-Tesla on their site. Overall I definitely recommend this charger.

This charger says it is Tesla compatible. Although technically it is, it does not include the necessary hardware to use it. Tesla requires a specific adapter that is not included.

I cannot speak highly enough about the excellent customer service. I purchased my charger back in November of 2023, originally was working fine, then started to slow down, I communicated with Juan in customer service via email who was very supportive, guided me through some steps trying to fix the problem, but when the charger did not cooperate he decided it needed to be replaced. I received the new unit, got it installed and started charging again. The reinstallation fees was also covered by Autel and they made a refund of that to my Amazon account.

No one else has the features Autel does, especially home charger sharing with the public just like a commercial unit. I just discovered there's a Tesla NACS j3400 version of the maxicharger but only in the autel web store. That would have been nice instead. I installed this on the house meter of an apartment building so tenants can charge and pay on their own account. One maxicharger can reach four parking stalls with the 25ft line and more units can be added in groups and load share as demand increases.

After the electrician added a line and connected the EV, I went through the startup steps. I got stuck at several places but usually found that I needed to reset something and backup a couple of steps. The biggest roadblock was not being able to connect phone and EV via bluetooth. I called tech support and we went through lots of things but could not get it to connect. The tech support guy said he would do some research and let me know what to do next. The solution was to send me a replacement EV and I would send back the original EV. While waiting for it, I did more rebooting of various things. Eventually I got the bluetooth to work with the original EV. I sent back the replacement EV. It is now working like a champ: both by schedule and by immediate plug-in.

Since I direct connected the EV there are many feature of the phone app that I don't use.
The best thing is it is setup so my wife only has to plug-in the charge and it will automatically charge over night. Much easier than the 2 year free plan with a charging vendor.

I had this professionally installed in my carport for a KIA EV6. Works great, charge speed is very good and the app allows me to set schedules to charge the car during off-peak hours. So far so good!!!!

Update: They eventually sent me a replacement. Although it took a little bit of nudging, the procedure was really good. They sent the replacement before I returned the defective charger, so there was little downtime. Although I needed an electrician to install, it was easy to swap it out myself. Just TURN OFF POWER AT THE BREAKER, confirm that there is no power with a detecteo, and read the instructions for installation. Now everything works great. After a few months of usage, I am really happy with the unit. Since I am using the car charger to control the details, the lack of API on the charger is not much of a limitation. The card security is important, since the charger is outside. So far, weather has been no issue at all.

The features are good, and my car reports full amperage (48A). I could connect the app to the charger fine via Bluetooth, and lots of info and control is available. Also, the feature to require a card to turn it on is nice, since the charger is outside. It is holding up well in the weather for the last few weeks.

The electricians had no difficulty installing it in my brick wall, and installation was cheaper than online research led me to believe.

Now the caveats: it sees no WiFi SSIDs. Not mine, and none of the dozen or so of my neighbor's that I can see in my phone. Clearly not working. I spoke with a technician who said that there should be an update soon to fix. We will see. This might be a problem if you wanted some of those features, like charging others to use your charger. It wasn't really for me because of the second annoying caveat.

The other caveat is that it does NOT use OCPP api, like the advertisement here says. That means that I cannot integrate it with Home Assistant, which I wanted to do cloud free. Annoying. That means that I cannot optimize charging with solar panels, or lower electricity prices.
