EVDANCE Powerful and Efficient Level 2 EV Home Charger (40Amp, 240V, NEMA 14-50P)

Seemed like a nice product. Basic but worked well to charge my EV with the display showing the time, amps that car was drawing and total amount charged. Unfortunately almost exactly two months after getting the unit it stopped working. Began rapidly clicking and heating up and showing that the unit was delivering 0 amps to the car. Very concerned the unit would damage the car as it was rapidly cycling on and off. EVDance support wanted me to actually hook it back up to my car and make them a video before honoring my warranty. When I replied that seemed like a bad idea they agreed to replace the unit but only after I ship the old one back (on my dime - it is heavy...). Will update if I in fact get a new unit back from them and see if it is more durable.

I like this charger cus you can adjust what amps you are charging at that's vary handy I charged it at 40amps it pulled 38amp didn't get hot work great.

Bought this for my new JL 4xE while traveling with our motor home. It's been pressed into service while we wait for our permanent house charger to show up. So far, so good. The JL has a small battery so charging at the highest amperage is not necessary. I am using this at the 24A setting which is working extremely well. I have been paying attention to the heat in the handle, cable, and box; all seem to be within acceptable tolerances. I am sure if I used a higher amperage setting it would get warmer as others have stated. This little charger will be perfect for use on the road. Let's see if it lasts. Five stars for now.

Just got the level 2 charger looked up and used for the first time today. I have always convinced myself that I didn't really need a level 2 - but today the car was charged back to full in 40 minutes instead of the usual 3.5 hours! I'm certain that short time will save me significant electricity use. So over time charging (I have 2 electric cars) 2 cars will more than compensate the installation expenses - and I even have solar panels that help offset the use of electricity!

This works really well. I have a 2013 LEAF and a 2022 Mach-E. Works with both cars well. My only concern is that the charging handle gets hot at 40+ amps. I lowered it to 32 amps, and it solved the problem. It just takes a bit longer to charge now.

I do like how easy the controls work in changing the amperage output and also the starting time.

I ran 6 guage wire (for 50 amps) from the fuse box to a NEMA 14-50 receptacle, and wired that to 50 amp circuit breaker in the fuse box. Works great. Be careful to use heavy enough wires or they will get hot and possibly start fire. 8 guage wire would have sufficed for 40A, but I wanted that extra margin of safety. Be sure your wiring connections are rock solid because you are pushing some serious power levels.

I am not noticing any significant increase in temperature at the charger when set at 40A. The cable between the charger and plug will get a little warm, but well within normal ranges. The temperature at the plug is only a few degrees over ambient temperature. Both the charger display and the car dash readout are in agreement on the charge rate...around 9.6kw typically.

I prefer to keep the charge rate set of 32A just for some added safety margin, and only bump up to 40A if in a hurry. I don't notice any warmth on the charge cable at that lower level. Charging is not 100% efficient and there is always some heat generated as a byproduct, and those repeated heating/cooling cycles will add wear and tear to your charging system (both the charge unit and the car's internal circuitry and the connectors). I suggest setting your charge rate at the lowest level that will charge your particular car overnight. Anything above that is a waste and extra wear and tear.

Was hesitant buying this for some reason but thus far it’s been great. I use it with an adapter and it charges up my Tesla Model S quickly @ 9kwh.

I also purchased an extension for our cable as we live in a townhouse and have to run it from our front porch out to the car. Several months now and zero issues.

2nd electric Vehicle added. 24 Chevy Blazer RS. This charger continues working well so far. Did have it blow the breaker once, but turned it back on and it’s been fine since. Charges both vehicles seamlessly. Will update if any changes.

I recently purchased an Ionic 5 and realized that the standard charger was just not going to work out, takes 48 hrs to get a full charge with that one. The dealer had level 2 chargers for $500, I thought that was ridiculous, so I came here. I like that I can change the amps. I had to lower the amperage to 25 for my old house, because 40 was popping the circuit breaker. Even at 25, got the car from 13% to 85% overnight.
