We went through 3 other toaster ovens (all for under $100) and had to return all of them for various reasons. Finally decided we'd get one of the top recommended ones from Consumer Reports, spent the real money on this one, and love it. It toasts so evenly! Lots of great built in functions (a bagel function that works great is note-worthy!). Totally worth the money.

I love it because it has a bagel setting. With this setting it shuts off the lower heating elements half way thru the cycle. So, depending on which side is up, you can reduce the toasting on the bottom.
It works great to bake/roast French fries / tater tots. Made a frozen pizza that was great. Haven’t use the broil function.
It does cost more than others but it does have a lot of functions.

Have been using it for about a month. We use to heat/bake bread, french fries, left over pizza, small side dishes for dinner. We don't use for roasting, etc. Getting used to the pre-heating feature. I place items inside before pre-heating is done, so things are a bit cooked already, reducing overall heating time just a bit. I've never had a light inside my toaster oven, so I'm OK with that here. I would recommend.

I have used the Breville Ovens for many years. I don't know how i missed that this particular one has NO INTERIOR LIGHT - oh I see, it has the convection fan button, where my other one had the light button...

I should have purchased another Breville Smart Oven Pro BOV845BSS with the interior light, which lasted me 6 years of almost daily use.

Toasting, convection baking / roasting are my most frequent uses.

Others have written in detail about how useful their Breville oven is, so I'm chiming in just to speak to its reliability. I abuse this little oven, use it most days, and have gone without a microwave for years thanks to the Reheat function + glass storage containers/oven safe dishes. Thank you, Breville, for making quality products! Worth every penny.

It takes some getting used to when using this little oven. It tends to run hotter and because the elements are closer to the food it is easier to toast or burn the outsides of some foods. Breville recommends turning the temp down about 25 degrees from whatever the package says to use and I agree with that. You may also need to reduce the cooking time as well. Expect about 3 - 6 months before you get the hang of it depending upon how much you use it. It toasts better than my toaster, but takes longer. It handles a decent sized pizza, but not a really large one. The instruction manual is thorough, but you have to look up each individual setting and then you get very similar info. There is no air fry setting on this model. Nonetheless, it is handy for smaller items, and it warms up fast. My regular over takes 15 - 20 minutes to get to 350 and 450 respectively. This little guy gets to 350 in about 5 minutes.

Later: Just noticed the description is wildly off on dimensions: they've reversed D & H in the text, the photo showing dimensions isn't even close to correct (maybe for a different oven? or the box it came in?), and the internal dimensions they report are actually the external dimensions.

And if they do fix the internal dimensions, know that there's a curve that sticks out the back ~3/4" to fit a pizza—I'd guess they'd include that 3/4" when they report dimensions.

Original review (which I'd still say):

Bigger on the inside than my last one, while just barely bigger on the outside. Evenness of browning of toast isn't bad, though not perfect, and bottom of toast is quite a bit less brown than top.

It's 15-20°F off on temp according to my oven thermometer, which isn't bad.

Slightly annoying that it starts to count down as soon as it reaches temp, rather than waiting till I push a button to let it know I've put the food in; otoh, my last one worked that way but if I didn't remember to push that button it turned off after a few minutes, which was worse.

It'd be nice if there were an explanation of the difference between "bake" "roast" "pizza" and "cookies"; I did find something on their website (but not in the instruction manual) that said "roast" increased the heat from the bottom since you'd have the food on a rack in a roasting pan, thus slightly insulating the bottom.

This is the second one of these we have owned. We received one for a gift about 8 years ago and we used it multiple times daily. We did all our toasting and a good share of our baking in this oven and were impressed from the start. We abused the oven, it did not get cleaned and cared for the way it should and we used it for baking large roasts and other messy items. The convection feature is a big selling point and for a small oven it bakes/toasts/cooks very consistently. When our friend gave us one he told us that he had done a bunch of research on it and America’s Test Kitchens rated it as the best small oven. They were right. After 8 years of use/abuse the convection fan stopped working and the backlight on the controls was wonky. My wife asked me if we could get a new one for Christmas, even though this one still worked okay I agreed it would be nice to replace it with a shiny new one. For the price it is well worth it. I think for a small oven we put it to more work than it was ever designed for and it performed flawlessly. This new model seems to be every bit as well made as the one we got 8 or so years ago. The light is a light blue compared to the Amber that old one had and i prefer this color not that it makes a difference on the ability of the oven to cook/bake/toast. Bottom line, you can save a bunch of money and buy a Black and Decker or Cuisinart toaster oven and probably get by for making a bagel or heating a frozen dinner or pizza (oh, this has a pizza function AND it comes with a pizza pan) and you would do okay with one of those lesser ovens, but it probably won’t last long and you likely won’t use it to roast a chicken or prime rib roast. But if you want to save money in the long run by not having to fire up your electric range or in our case LP Gas range, and utilize this oven that heats up quickly, you will have one that will last years. Our old one got put in a box and into storage, someday we may need an extra for something and I am sure it would still work minus the convection function. Spend the extra few dollars and buy the right oven. Breville is the best for the money.

My prior two toaster ovens were Cuisinart. They worked reasonably well, and the last one that I had for 10 years was adequately durable, but the displays were always a bit difficult to read and they were a real problem to clean. This was because the crumb tray was a tight fit and removed from the rear, and also there were many crevices around the inside of the door that collected debris. The Breville solves both of the problems. The display turns on brightly as soon as you touch the controls, is easy to read from any angle, and changes color from white to orange to indicate you have started cooking, and the cleaning is super easy. There are many less small crevices to catch stuff and the crumb tray pulls out easily from the front. We've been using it for almost 3 months and I've been able to keep it almost looking like new.

The cooking is great. The only downside is when toasting, the bottoms of the bread are not completely even being lighter (striped) where they sit over the support rods on the tray. As far as I can tell that is an insoluble problem since there has to be a way to support the item being cooked. If you need "perfect" toast you could always rotate the bread 90 degrees 1/2 way thru the cooking.

The Breville has a nice preheating feature for baking and cooking pizzas that let's you know when it reaches temp. It oven also has a convection feature but we have not yet experimented much with that.

Of course I don't know how durable the oven will be. Only time will tell. But, so far, so good.

Update - we have now had this unit 6 months and still working perfectly and enjoying it more than ever. Great purchase!

I am a Breville fan. I purchased my first Breville smart oven 20 years ago. It was one of my first Amazon purchases. I replaced it in 2013 with this model and am replacing it again today with the same model. I decided not to upgrade due to some issues with this model and just concerned that more features would equal more issues. The one and only issue I have had with this oven is when I press the convection button, instead of turning that feature off and on, part of the time it changes the displayed temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius, the other part of the time it toggles the frozen feature on and off. All I am trying to do is turn off or on convection and I have to repeatedly press it because the toaster keeps toggling these other functions. So something is definitely faulty on the machine. It did not do this right away. I am going to guess it started only about 5 years ago, and it was not after I moved it nor cleaned it, so it was completely random and probably due to age and use. Speaking of use. My family of 3-4 depending on the day or week uses this appliance several times a day. It was, until about 10 minutes ago, the workhorse of my household and I cannot wait until my new one arrives tomorrow. That means I won't have to clean my old one. No reason to, it keeps beeping E05 at me and from everything I have read online that indicates a hardware problem. So they last about 10 years.
