Emporia Level 2 EV Home Charger: Fast, Smart, and Reliable 48A

I use it to charge a 2024 Kia Sportage PHEV. The Emporia charger gets the job done quickly, drawing power from my solar panels. I do most of our driving powered by the sun. Very happy.

I did some research and really like the technology ecosystem that Emporia has built. That said, this EV charger is the only item that I've purchased from the company thus far. I liked that this charger was on the EPA Energy Star list, which allowed me to qualify for a rebate from my electric utility. I also liked that this charger could be installed as a 40A charger when used with the factory-installed NEMA 14-50 plug, or changed to a hardwired installation to run at 48A when supplied by a 60A breaker. (25% safety margin mandated by NEMA)

The hardwired installation was straightforward, though 6 AWG wire isn't super easy to work with! Be aware that if you want to do this yourself, Emporia is using 1" fittings, and the housing is plastic. Plan accordingly. I'd purchased 3/4" wire clamps and ended up having to use spacers for the clamp where the wiring entered the charger housing. The electrical inspector didn't have a problem with it, but I'd maybe do things differently if I had it to do over again.

As it is, I've got a great charger, the registration and firmware update via the app were super easy, and I've got an L2 charger with the capacity to push more juice if my next EV can take a higher charge rate. (The Chevy Bolt EV LT maxes out at 32A on L2 charging)

I've this item now professionally installed as direct wire installed and I get upto 48kw charged , it's really nice and so far so good, app works super

I bought this charger for my 24 Wrangler 4xe. I did a lot of research and this was pretty much the best charger under $500 and has enough charging to feel future proof for the next few years. Level 2 charging is a great step up from Level 1. My charging time went from 12 hrs to 2 hrs with eat Emporia. The build of the charger is solid. It feels and looks like a significant piece of equipment. The app is fairly good, it could be developed more. However it gives you all the info you need. It can be a little clunky to navigate, but it's still useful. My only gripe is the charging cord is very thick. Thicker than other charges in the same price range. One word of advice, even if you ar going to charge at 32 or 40 amps use at lest a 50 amp breaker and the appropriate wire to future proof this installation. Your next vehicle may be able to take a heavier charge. I fully recommend this charger for anyone looking to save a few bucks.

I find this Emporia charger to be easy to program and easy to plug in and take out of you electric vehicle.

What's nice is that on the app, you can see how long you charged and the cost of the charge. My Tesla never did that, or perhaps I didn't know how to use it.

The charging cable is heavier than Tesla's, but it doesn't coil up like the Tesla did, so that's a plus.

I bought the "plugged" version of this for our new EV. It charges very fast. Easy to use. So far, so good! Hope it lasts and keeps working well. But as a new product, it is great!
